The Army Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships 2018 are to be held Wednesday 23 May 2018 commencing at 1200 hours at Eton Dorney Lake. DB Max Multisport events will co-ordinate the event, online entries and race details through their website (DB Max). The race will be held on private roads with minimal traffic and is a non-drafting event.
This Sprint Triathlon will be conducted at Eton Dorney Lake and is open to Regular / Reserve service personnel, from all three Services, plus entitled MOD civil service personnel. This event is open to all standards of athlete and units are encouraged to allow individuals and teams to take part in this multi-sport event.
a. Swim: The swim will take place in the warmup lake and will be wetsuits compulsory with water safety cover. The 750m swim course will be set out in advance (GPS measured) using buoys as the turn points.
b. Cycle: This 20km four lap cycle route will be conducted on flat fast private roads with minimal traffic. However, all athletes are to obey normal road laws at all times. Competitors should make note of the route which will be displayed in transition. Static and mobile draft busters will enforce BTF drafting rules. Approved cycle helmets are mandatory.
c. Run: The 5km run is out and back route that is a flat and fast.
Army Major / Minor Unit Team Competition
Units are encouraged to enter as many teams as possible. The team competition will be organised and based on the following categories:
a. Major Unit Teams. Five athletes with the first four to count.
b. Minor Unit Teams. Three athletes to count.
Army Championship Prize Giving
The prize giving ceremony will start once the results have been finalised by DB Max but no later than 1400 hours. All competitors are strongly encouraged to remain until the prize giving is completed. Prizes will be awarded as follows so long as there are more than three athletes in each category:
a. Male Open. First, second and third.
b. Female Open. First, second and third.
c. Male Masters (over 40). Winner.
d. Female Masters (over 35). Winner.
e. Male Senior Masters (over 45). Winner.
f. Female Senior Masters (over 40). Winner.
g. Major Unit. Winner.
h. Minor Unit. Winner.
a. Online. The entry fee is £21 per entrant this includes a £1 online admin fee.
b. Use of the online system is strongly encouraged, however last minute changes are inevitable and therefore entries on the day will be accepted. The entry fee covers the cost of the event, individual and team prizes. Online registration has been designed to be simple and secure – each entry has to be done individually so that timing chip numbers can be allocated.
c. As long as individuals are identified correctly, it will be simple to locate members of unit teams. DO NOT abbreviate unit names and Team names must be identical for the software filters to work.
d. On the day entry. Cheques are to be made to Army Triathlon Association the fee will be £25.00 per entrant. On the day entry closes at 1130 hours.
Paratriathletes and Tri-Service athletes
The event will be open to all members of the Tri-Service community and the course will be adapted as necessary to ensure that all Paratriathletes can race. Entry to this race by members of the other services is encouraged but it should be noted that members of the Royal Navy and RAF will not be eligible for prizes.
